Keepers of the Flame
A Civil Rights Movement Tour
To Grandparents, Parents, Guardians, Teachers, Mentors and Youth Leaders:
It is of the utmost importance for us to expose our children to their Civil Rights Movement History, for it is said that he that does not remember his past is bound to repeat his past. We say this not to encourage hatred or violence, but to instill in our children a greater appreciation of the sacrifices and abuse that their ancestors endured, at the hands of their oppressor, the blood shed, the senseless lives lost and the unbelievable challenges faced by their African American Ancestors.
We believe that for our youth there is no greater enhancement to education than real life, hands on experiences. Our Tour Department at George’s Motor Coach is sponsoring such an experience. Our "Keepers of the Flame Civil Rights Movement Tour” will put a face on these experiences. The value of seeing the actual historical sites, such as monuments, churches, museums, buildings, etc. are quite immeasurable and life changing. We believe that in order to connect our future to the present we must have knowledge of our past.
Our youth needs to know that many of the protestors were very young in age. They were filled with a sense of hope and boldness. As we grew up in to adulthood the trials of every day life’s fears begins to creep in and we as adult become conservative and cautious in our every day life decision.
Our tours will focus on Alabama. Many of the major events that gave the civil rights movement its face took place in the great state of Alabama during the 1950s and 1960s. Concerted efforts made to guarantee not only African Americans but all people equal access to public and private schools, transportation, voting booths, economic opportunities and housing, caused tremendous social turmoil throughout the South with Alabama being one those most publicized states to fight segregation and the movement.
We, as “Keepers of the Flame,” have a moral and ethical obligation to keep the flame burning by enriching our children’s horizons so that there may be more Obamas, more Opras, more Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, more Rosa Parks, more Ronald McNairs, Shirley Franklins, Tyler Perrys, doctors, teachers, pastors, entrepreneurs, loving parents and productive citizens.
Please! Don’t miss this captivating “Keepers of the Flame” tour.
